Style: House,Electro,Tech Email: Beatzoo@hotmail.co.uk I'm from Oxford & have been djing for 12 years now. I've played at various venues in around Oxford, Birmingham & London such as Bar Babushka,Thirst, Ponanas, The Cellar, Coven, Zodiac & The Jam Factory. My early influences of electronic music stemmed from my fathers record collection that included the likes of Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Michael Jean-Jarre, & A-ha to name a few. At around 14 I discovered Massive Records and began buying hardcore rave packs like they were going out of fashion, this then developed into an extensive record collection. A small scene of us started going out to free rave parties on the Ridgeway & the Sanctuary in Milton Keynes. We then discovered the Coven, a well known sleazy venue in Oxford that played hard house, Trance & Garage - It was a right mashup! We named it the oven coz it was so fucking hot in there,The ceilings and walls dripped with sweat. The music was good, drugs were easily accesible,& there was a friendly community. What a laugh those days were. Since then I got into the House scene, favouring the more gritty underground sounds as opposed to the soulful saturday night heros music. I then expanded my record collection for techno & breaks records, but nowadays my style incorporates anything from deep funky grooves to electro,tech,minimal house & techno. I take pride in my technical ability but I take it for granted. It's all about juxta position - sequence and selection. I never play anywhere I feel displaced, which is brilliant. Agents that don't really care about much besides the money aspect, can really burn you out. I think it's really important to have someone on your side that screens the offers and makes sure every gig - tiny or big- makes sense for both the artist and the crowd /club. These days I prefer clubbing in London. The energy & atmosphere is so much more refreshing.You get proper clubs, proper music, proper clubbers. Some of the venues i've been to include The End, Turnmills, The Key, The Cross, The Egg, 333, The Fridge, Heaven, Cargo, AKA Bar, Twisted Melon & Ministry Of Sound & of course not forgeting Fabric. My Big influences to date are Craig Richards, Terry Francis, Andrew Weatherall, Doc Martin, Anthony Rother, Swayzak, Ricardo Villalobos, Ewan Pearson, Ralph Lawson, Spirit Catcher, Sven Vath & the Godfather of Italo Disco Alexander Robotnick. My home studio consists of 2 Technics 1210 Mk2 run on Ortofon Concordes DJ Blue, Allen & Heath mixer XONE 62, Tascam CD-302 Dual mixers, Pioneer EFX-500, Traktor Scratch / Audio8 DJ Hardware, Apple Macbook Pro, Pioneer PDR-509 CD Recorder, Yamaha AX-396 Amplifier, Eltax Speakers & Technics DJ1200 Headphones. This year I intend on promoting myself,securing dj slots & the hopeful possiblity of a residency. Next year I'm moving to Edinborough to study music production. My main intension is djing, but would like to produce my own material. |
